1 Jun

In one week from today, Jennifer Neuguth, Festival Fete founder, and her “dream team” as she affectionately calls them will open the “Art Festival in a Box” and produce an amazing, one of a kind outdoor art festival. I’m proud to be part of her dream team of professionals, business partners, friends and family and am SO excited to get on with the show! Here’s a behind the scenes look at what it takes to put together an art festival production (with style). – Danielle Salisbury

So help us generate positive sunny weather energy and spread the word…next weekend….June 8th and 9th from 10am – 5pm daily…Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival!!

Meet more Garden City Art Festival Artists!

31 May

Here is a sneak peek at four artists that will be at Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival on June 8th and 9th (next weekend!) from 10am – 5pm daily. The festival is free and so is parking so come out to support your local artists and pick up some unique gifts!

1.) Mike Fagella, Uncorked. After 30 years in the flooring business, a few years ago Mike was able to sell his store and pursue his hobby full-time! He creates household accessories out of old wood and corks that he collects. Mike says, “Someone told me about Etsy and the rest is history! Recently I have acquired some French oak from a local whisky distiller and the fact that it is infused with spirits gives the wood a beautiful patina and makes these items very unique. Looking forward to the show!”

2.) Megan Labrecque, Apiary Designs. Apiary Designs is the creative partnership of Megan and her mother Nancy White. They create practical and attractive accessories and household items using a variety of materials including both new and vintage fabrics. They make cute and whimsical aprons for adults and children, totes, yoga mat bags, accessory pouches and more.

3.) Shannon Caldwell, Lotus Life. “Lotus Life was inspired by my personal belief that we all have the power to create the life we want for ourselves, beginning with what we choose to focus on, and the words we choose to use, not only with ourselves, but with others as well.
My intention for Lotus Life is to contribute something to the world that would help replace negative obstacles that separate us from connecting through the heart, even with ourselves. I thought the power of words would be a great place to start. The quotes/words I’ve chosen will hopefully inspire you to see all the positives in your own life, as well as all the possibilities that lie within you!”

4.) Kyle Kochiss, Heart to Heart Design

“I have always found the beach to be a place of inspiration and peace.  While walking the beach one summer I picked up a stone in the perfect shape of a heart and was intrigued… I was amazed at the abundance of these gems of nature tumbled by the sea.  I do not shape these stones into hearts, I use them as I find them and I wire wrap the stones keeping the design simple to expose their natural beauty.”

The Featured artist for the evening in Warren is Deborah Baronas, whom I had the pleasure of meeting when I worked at Anthony Tomaselli‘s Gallery in Newport. She’s an amazing textile artist and RISD graduate that has been working in the textile industry for 25 years. Her textiles reflect her unique painterly style and the open studio event will feature her layered work in oil, charcoal, painting and textiles.

Dara Raisner

At Boheme, you will find the work of Dara Raisner – Harliquinn-Designs. Dara is a local jewelry artist that works with a special two-part epoxy clay and makes each piece by hand.

Kimberly DiNofrio, a handbag artist, is a regular at Festival Fete Festivals, and her work will be at the Stella Maria Soap Company. She has a delightful assortment of clutches, totes, pillows and wine bags. Many of her items are constructed using up-cycled coffee sacks.

Over in Bristol, you will find Sarah J. Silva – Unique Pottery at the Knotty Dog. As a native Rhode Islander Sarah’s love of art began at an early age. Through the years Sarah has experimented with many mediums but none have captivated her like ceramics. “Throwing on the wheel is a time of peace and reconnection with things above. If one of my pieces can bring a smile and joy to someone’s day, then I have accomplished my purpose,” — she says.

Botanical Beauties & Beasties: The work of Liz Carren

29 May

Liz Carren will be bringing her Botanical Beauties & Beasties to Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival next weekend – oh my!

Botanical Beauties & Beasties, Liz Carren

Liz has been involved with art, illustration, flowers, horticultural and whimsy since the early ‘80s and her background is art, design, photography and digital technology. She creates very unique characters out of her images of flowers and bits from nature. Each one has a personality and an individual story. Her love and respect for nature is a common theme in each one of her designs.

Here is a little bit from Liz about her creations:

Come meet us, greet us, and hear the stories for yourself at Festival Fete! We have Beauties that range from Julia: Organic Chef/Baker, to Moe, The Minister of Clean Water, to Yum: our “Anti Bully,” Peace, Love, and Kindness Goddess. Each one I create is a unique mix of flowers taken to another ‘dimension’ and is art with a story, a message of kindness and a smile.  You can take them home with you as “Mini Art” (some people call these Greeting Cards but we know many end up on walls!), Matted Prints, Note Pads, and our brand new 2013 product of keepsake boxes!

I love the Yoga Warrior beastie!

She has a busy show season this year, and we are thrilled that she will be bringing her Botanical Beauties & Beasties to Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival June 8th and 9th (next weekend!). Here are a few of her other RI favorites where you can find them:  greeting cards at Whole Foods Market Garden City, Narragansett Fine Art Festival on June 22nd  and 23rd , and the Tiverton Arts & Artisan Festival July 20th.

For this Jewelery Business, it’s a Family Affair…

24 May

M & D Fine Jewelry have been featured artists on the Festival Fete blog before, but we are happy to share this family business with you again because they have some beautiful new designs and are always on top of the latest trends in the industry (and they are JUST SO NICE!). They will be at the Virtu Art Festival in Westerly, RI this weekend, but will also be at Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival on June 8th & 9th.

nautical gold jewelry, Jewel of the Glades, M & D Fine Design

M & D Fine Jewelry is a business that was started by Hillary’s late Mother, Marjorie (who designed many of the pieces they still make) and father, Dennis in 1982. In 2001 Hillary and her husband Nick (who Hillary says has an exceptional eye for detail, like her mother) joined the business. Between the three of them, they hand make each piece of jewelry in their studio in Florida and Massachusetts, and attend over 75 art festivals a year!

I asked Hillary what our guests at the Garden City Art Festival can look forward to seeing:

Our style definitely reflects the beaches and the summertime spirit here in New England.  Guests can look forward to seeing our use of blue topaz gemstones which we love to dapple our sterling silver shells with as well as starfish, sand dollars, scallop shells, quahogs, you name it – we have very true to life designs for it.

Most recently, they have incorporated sea turtles and crabs to make several new pieces, added pendants and slides and they have also reworked some of their older pieces to make them new again!

You can find beach themed or nautical jewelry at a jewelry store, but our jewelry is made by just 3 people.  It isn’t pressed in a machine.  It isn’t thin and light weight.  It’s solid metal.  We work 7 days a week to make and show our products and we are hoping to participate in several Festival Fete shows including the Garden City Art Festival in June, East Greenwich in August-September, and Festival Fete’s Holiday Market in December!

New Garden City Art Festival Artists!

21 May

Today we will feature several artisans that will be at Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival for the first time!

WaterSpirits Jewelry: Unique Creations Inspired by the Beauty of the Sea

The mystery, power and beauty of the sea are all inspirations of WaterSpirits Jewelry’s owner and artistic designer, Annette Paull, from East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

Her passion for making sea glass jewelry and other creations evolved out of her love of combing the beautiful Rhode Island coastline for it’s many treasures.  Not all of WaterSpirits’ pieces are made using sea glass but they are all inspired by the ocean’s beauty.

Some of Annette’s many creations include sea glass pendants, angels, dragonflies, hearts, rings, earrings and wine charms. They are wire-wrapped to enhance the beauty of authentic ocean tumbled sea glass.  Man made sea glass is never used and each creation is unique and one of a kind. Many of her creations are special requests and she would be happy to make your piece of sea glass or ocean treasure into a beautiful keepsake to wear or display.

Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival is Annette’s first art festival since starting her business in 2010.

Little Bits By Monica Rodgers and LB GEAR will be at Festival Fete this June 8th and 9th for their big debut Garden City Center! Infant and Toddler Car Seat Covers, Accessories for Kids & Parents, Super Hero Capes, and much more. As seen in InStyle Magazine, the Today show, NY times, and the celebrity favorite for parenting gear.Founded in 2004 by Monica Rodgers, their mission is to inspire parents to think about doing their “little bit” in the world. “It takes a village to raise a child, but also to heal the world and make a difference”.

Rainbow Kids by Stacia Caplanson

Stacia Caplanson started her Massachusetts home based business in 2008 to provide hand dyed, bright, colorful and fun clothing for babies, children and adults of all sizes and ages. Before starting a family and her business, she worked as an historian and museum interpreter demonstrating spinning, weaving, knitting, quilting and wool dyeing and has always loved the creative process of working with fabrics, fibers and colors.

In my studio, each piece of clothing is folded, tied and banded by hand to create the design. The powdered dyes are mixed with water. After soaking the clothing in a mordant solution, I use squeeze bottles to apply the liquid dye to the clothing. Then each item is enclosed in a plastic bag and allowed to “age” like a fine wine for 24 hours. This important step allows the dyes to bond with the fabric and creates the vivid colors. After dyeing, the items are rinsed by hand and then triple washed to remove any excess dye. It is a joy to view each creation as I take it out of the washer. No two are exactly alike.

As Stacia’s business has grown, she has expanded her line of clothing to include scarves and other accessories. She is a proud and active member of Artisans of Western Mass and the Etsy groups Made in Massachusetts, and Stay at Home Moms on Etsy. She has been very busy exhibiting at local shops, festivals, fairs, and farmer’s markets including the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Coventry Regional Farmers’ Market, Codman Estate and Roseland Cottage Festivals, StART on the Street, Monson Arts Council Holiday Festival, Craftopia, Festival Fete, Tip Top Country Store, Brookfield, MA and Oh So Pretties Handmade Boutique in Wilbraham, MA.

All three of these artists will be at Festival Fete’s Garden City Art Festival on June 8th and 9th in Cranston, RI. Please join us in welcoming them!
