With that said…

The Festival Fete Holiday Market is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited!

Bring your entire family to enjoy Festival Fete’s Holiday Market, December 1st and 2nd at the Garden City Center in Cranston, RI  from 10am to 5pm daily. The festival will include over 100 Contemporary American Art and Craft artisans along with  visits with Santa, FREE Gift wrapping, a Children’s Creation Station, festive food and strolling merriment.

$3 per person donation to Art Is Smart is suggested (read more below…). Children under 12 are FREE.

Keep your calendars open – You don’t want to miss out on this event!

Art Is Smart serves children by raising funds to support public education art programs. We produce and sell AIS merchandise, hold fundraising events, and direct 100% of corporate and individual donations to public school art teachers who request funding via a short, specific letter outlining what they need funding for and how much. A simple and straightforward process for raising and distributing funds, Art Is Smart is based on pure passion for the arts. For more information, visit the official website here.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

East Greenwich Art Festival Features

1 Aug

Phlash Photo Art     Jonathan Almond

These two wonderful artists will be at the East Greenwich Art Festival on September 1st and 2nd, will you?

Erin Walsh of Phlash Photo Art digitally enhances her images in order to give the look of a classic oil painting. These images are printed on canvas and framed in reclaimed barn wood, morphing into unique creations of her own design.

Photographing the original image is just the start of process….

First and foremost, Erin begins with a picture that speaks to her.  Once the right image has been selected, she then begins the creative process of enhancing color, hue, saturation, contrast and refining the general composition, allowing her to remove undesirable aspects from the image

Much of Erin’s passion and inspiration derives from rendering homes into beautiful pieces of fine art – beginning with a painting created by her aunt years ago. Along the way, Erin has also taken inspiration from the works of Thomas Kinkade in an attempt to bring a little magic and whimsy into the images and make them look as good as she imagines they could.

Ultimately, her joy comes from the satisfaction of her clients when they see the final image.

Jonathan Almond

Jonathan Almond works specifically with watercolor – featuring 6×9, 9×12, and 12×15 paintings mostly of historic buildings, landscapes and trains.

Throughout his years as a painter, Jonathan has developed a distinctive style in which he makes a pencil drawing followed by a fine point archival ink pen in order to make a more detailed image. He then applies the watercolors often using vivid and bold colors for the final product.

For Jonathan, travel provides the greatest inspiration…

“I have often wondered why I like painting with watercolors so much. The answer to that is three-fold. First, watercolors travel easily and dry quickly and I often paint while flying in coach class. Second, the colors create a swirl and variety of eye popping effect with a simple beauty of the wash. Third, the brushes seem to be an extension of my very being.”

Check out Jonathan’s work online today!

And make sure to come out to the East Greenwich Art Festival on September 1st and 2nd to see works by Jonathan Almond, Phlash Photo Art and more of your favorite local artists!

Come out to the Newport Yachting Center at sunset (5:30-9pm) and join Festival Fete for live local entertainment, arts and much more!

Pow! Science! Will be there! Will you?

Pow! Science! started out in 2003 providing “Science Enrichment” to elementary and middle school aged kids through their unique hands on approach to the world of science. The team has since expanded from the days of working solely in school programs or at birthday parties. Pow! Science! can now be found at “almost any sort of venue where kids can be entertained and enlightened by science oriented activities!”
The Pow! Science! team is comprised of a number of science professionals who hold, or are working toward, degrees in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Environmental Geology and Marine Science. One thing the team has in common is the desire to incorporate the audience into each and every experiment they conduct!
Pow! Science! has 13 different Classroom Science Presentations and 9 Birthday Party themes
If you attended last week’s Hullabaloo, we are sure you remember the Hotwheels/Blu Track set-up!
“Incidentally, “Pow!” is not an acronym. It’s just like the sound effect from the old Batman show in the 60s. If an experiment doesn’t have enough “Pow!” we won’t do it.” -Eric B., Pow! Science!
Check out Pow! Science! and purchase tons of cool science tools you can use on your own!
