Your East Greenwich Art Festival Artists!

Liv & Lov by Dora Szekely designs     StudioDDB Stained Glass Art

Dora Szekely of Liv & Lov creates pieces of wearable art jewelry, designing each piece completely by hand! As a Global Studies major in college focusing on Fair Trade and having worked with FT organizations, Dora makes great efforts to use only recycled silver. She switched to recycled with the dream of one day being a part of creating a Fair Trade Silver, something with transparency for artisans that can’t afford to own a mine.

Dora even had the opportunity to visit mines in southern Africa and learn how it has developed the country and affects the people, further strengthening her resolve. She has also interned and worked as a researcher for the No Dirty Gold campaign and hopes to work on Fair Trade gold in Colombia before going to Peru to research silver mining. The profits she makes from her jewelry not only go back into her art but towards these goals!

The manner in which I create is inspired by people and the earth, the designs are inspired by nature, geometric forms, and connections. The way opposing geometric forms connect and the connections everything living has to each other, unknown, random, and destined.

Follow your dreams

Liv life to the fullest

Be compassionate

Love you, others and the Earth

& You will not only find happiness

But will change the World!

Check out Liv & Lov by Dora Szekely designs and come out to the East Greenwich Art Festival on September 1st and 2nd at the New England Tech campus to see Dora’s beautiful artwork in person!

For Donna, her work in stained glass comes from her fascination with the play of light and shadow – a constant change of the piece of art at different times during the day (and during the four seasons) as the light changes the appearance of the image

Donna is inspired by the beauty of cathedral windows and greatly appreciates the amount of time and hard work that goes into creating such works of art. Donna works mainly in the Tiffany copper
foil technique and believes Tiffany’s works are breathtaking

While Donna has worked in illustration, painting, photography and more, she enjoys the challenges of cutting and soldering glass to create a piece of art. While she is able to produce a traditional stained glass piece, She finds that it’s always more fun to create something with a bit of whimsey

Visit Donna of StudioDDB Stained Glass Art online today and make sure to come out to the East Greenwich Art Festival to see works by Donna, Dora and all of your favorite local artists along with live entertainment, local eats, free kids activities and more!

And just around the corner…

Come out to the Newport Yachting Center on June 27th at Sunset (5:30-9:30PM) and join us for local arts and entertainment in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island

The more we learn about our participating artists, the more we want to share with you!

TEN31, a Rhode Island native company specializing in living art installations will be at the Newport Hullabaloo on June 27th!

We think what these guys do is pretty amazing and we think you will too! Check out what we learned…

TEN31 Productions

Who or what is the main inspiration behind your work?

Nature (for our Human Nature Collection) , Mythology and classic sculpture for our living statues. We relish in the opportunity to bring the characters, creatures and demigods from our childhood stories to life in modern times.

Was there a particular instance that helped you to realize your love for the arts?
I have been an artist all my life, my mom handmade all of my Halloween costumes as a kid. We were always busy making pretend, art has always been in my blood.

What is the medium/genre you enjoy working with the most?
Making fantastical costumes out of all sorts of materials is the best job in the world! We use pretty much every kind of material possible, fabric, paint, cardboard, rope, etc. We all have permanent glue gun blisters.

In what way do you hope your art form in general will affect the world?
Everyone in the world today is extremely busy. We have the ability to stop people in their tracks, inviting them to pause, if only for a minute, and take a trip back in time to when they themselves would make pretend. Often its children that stop their parents and point at us, they can usually see the magic thats happening before their parents do.

Who is your favorite artist/performer and why?
We are inspired by anyone who steps out of the box and is brave enough to march to the beat of their own drummer!

Tell us something you feel makes your personal art form truly unique.

Normally when someone goes to see a theatrical performance, they are seated and the performer is on stage. There is a huge distance between them. When someone attends an event with a TEN31 Performance, they are encouraged to interact with us. This one on one energy exchange is absolutely unique and we feel that it is one of the main reasons why we have become so successful. Its an absolute MUST to get your photo taken with us!

How long does it take to get ready? Where do you get your costumes?
It takes us 2 hours to get ready and all of our costumes are handmade at TEN31’s workshop in Pawtucket RI.
Check out TEN31 online and see them live at the Newport Hullabaloo on June 27th, you won’t want to miss it!

Up Next: Newport Hullabalo

20 Jun

After a great run at the Garden City Center Art Festival in Cranston, Festival Fete is back in action!

Up Next: Newport Hullabaloo!

The Newport Hullabaloo will be occurring Wednesday evenings in June & July in Newport, Rhode Island beginning next week June 27th at sunset (5:30PM-9:30PM) followed by repeat occurrences on July 11& July 18

The Newport Hullabaloo is FREE to the public. Come out next week to see what all the fuss is about!

We welcome you to learn about some of our featured Newport Hullabaloo artists…

Mary King is just one that will be performing at the Newport Hullabaloo on June 27th!

We asked Mary a series of questions regarding her work and here’s what we learned…

Who or what is the main inspiration behind your work?
When the fiddle or harp are ‘playing something new’ or ‘writing’ I am just there, they know what they want to say & will do what they will. I would have to say the main inspiration behind my work must be spiritually centered, I love music & it is alive in me for some reason, I don’t know why.

Was there a particular instance that helped you to realize your love for the arts?
I suppose hearing my mother from ‘Donegal sing all her beautiful songs the time I was growing up helped me realize the love of music I was given.

What is the medium/genre you enjoy working with the most?
Music, writing poetry.

In what way do you hope your art form in general will affect the world?
I like to think that I bring people together in a happy way, I alway include people in my playing, whether it be singing along or joining in with percussion.

Who is your favorite artist/performer and why?
My favorite artist is Phil Edmunds, Irish whistle player & button accordian player because he plays with all his heart & soul & is so welcoming to all.

Tell us something you feel makes your personal art form truly unique
Irish people can never say what makes them truly unique, that would be like saying, “I’m great, I’m special” & that would mean you are full of yourself which is probably a big sin (hahah).

If Mary were to create & answer her own question…

Why do the arts exist?

So we can live in heaven while we are on earth.

Learn more about Mary by visiting her online

And make sure to see her perform live at the Newport Hullabaloo in Newport, Rhode Island at the Newport Yachting Center on Wednesday June 27th at 5:30PM
