Art Happenings: Photography by Stephen Spencer

28 Mar

Did you know that this Friday, March 29th is National Mom & Pop Business Owners day?

I think it’s a great opportunity to celebrate small business owners and to thank all of the Festival Fete artists and vendors for their continued participation in our events. After all, Festival Fete’s mission is to gather together small, independent business owners for a fun, successful and community oriented festival,  and also to promote and support our vendors business…whether it be the artists, food vendors, entertainers, like those really fun fellas over at Pow! Science!...or the founders of Festival Fete – Jennifer & David!

So to all of you – happy Mom & Pop Business Owners day!

Art Happenings this weekend? The weekends jam packed with art festivals and gallery openings are coming soon, but it’s not this weekend. However, one of our Garden City Art Festival Artists does have a photography show in Providence that you should check out before it closes next Wednesday:

Stephen Spencer’s photography show, “Moments in Color” is currently on view at the BankRI Gallery – but don’t wait to see it because the show will be closing next Wednesday, April 3rd. Then you can look forward to his next show, at the BankRI Turks Head building gallery with an opening reception on Gallery Night Providence on April 18th.

“I like to shoot everyday stuff,” Spencer says.  “I try to take the ordinary and make it look interesting.” Spencer uses a digital camera and although he normally eschews using computer generated tricks to enhance the images he takes, he does use Photoshop.  “I love digital photography,” Spencer says,  “And I am a firm believer that what you get in the camera is what you should show, but I also believe that Photoshop is today’s darkroom tool and it allows you to experiment with images. That’s what the photos in this show are about, experimenting with photography through the art of manipulation.”
