Festival Fete is happy to promote and share events that celebrate local art, families and the community. Since we’ve started this series of blog posts, I know that I have said, “this is really a great weekend for art!” (every week)…but it’s true – there are many Rhode Island towns that are just spilling over with fantastic opportunities to view, share, purchase and make art!
Saturday, 10/20 – Sunday 10/21 from 11:00 – 5:00 West Bay Open Studio Tour. Get an inside look at 22 artists’ studios by joining the free, self-guided West Bay Open Studio Tour spanning the towns of East Greenwich, Warwick, Exeter, North Kingstown and Saunderstown. This once a year studio tour offers you an opportunity to meet the artists in their studios and purchase their art.
Even if you don’t have time to visit the studios, you will enjoy browsing the artists websites to learn more about them and see their beautiful work. I was delighted to discover artist Lorena Pugh‘s luminous and spectacular pear paintings.
This is a quote from Lori’s Artist Statement; so beautifully phrased:
The Pear paintings address both the subjective and venerable nature of the female form. They are part of a series that has metaphorically delved into what it means to have a desirable or repulsive, elusive or available body. Using the produce bag, I have alluded to the issues of ownership, of servitude and of suffocation. With the tissue I explore desire. In both cases I try and capture the organic beauty of light on translucent form. The Pear series is intended to represent a woman’s experience of her physical self and celebrate organic beauty.
You can kick off your weekend of studio tours with a fundraiser for the Warwick Museum of Art; Wine Tasting & Food Pairing with fine wines by Bottles Fine Wine of Providence and catered Hors d’Ouevres by Blue Moon Catering. This event is in conjunction with the 26th Annual Rhode Island Open Art Exhibit. Tickets are $30 each. For more information contact the Warwick Museum of Art.
Saturday, 10/20 Opening of the Fayerweather Craft Guild in Kingston, RI. Hours will be Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 – 4:00 in November and December. They offer many different classes, events and opportunities to buy local crafts and get a history lesson too.
Thursday, October 18th – Gallery Night Providence. Opening Reception from 5:00 – 9:00 pm for my friend Anthony Tomaselli, who is having a very special solo exhibit at Gallery Z on Atwells Avenue, Providence.
Have a great weekend! – Danielle
