Welcome to Elena’s World

1 Jun

Elena Wikstrom: Juried Member of the League of NH Craftsmen.

Elena is a theatrical costume designer, originally from St-Petersburg, Russia. She learned the technique of painting on fabric from working for 20 years with different theaters. After moving to USA, Elena used her knowledge and experience to design different lines of home decor items: Greeting cards, Christmas decorations, Table clothes and Painting. New ideas and approaches to creating art were developed.

Elena makes original stencils, one for each color, and for every detail in her composition.

Oil and dry brush techniques are used with her stencils to create an airbrushed look. Also, she uses acrylic along with the stencils. Sometimes on paintings there is an applique of painted fabric or paper.

For the final decorating, Elena uses a very old technique of applying paint – through a very small hole in a wax paper bag, like a pastry bag for cake, but very much smaller. This is an imitation of embroidery using paint, not thread, to make a home decor items.

“Painting on fabric for me is feelings of submerging into a magic world, a fairy tale; and I want to share this feelings with you.”
