D.S Brennan Photography: A Vibrant Perspective

15 Apr

“Diana Brennan … uses her camera much as a scientist uses a magnifying glass or microscope. Her work celebrates secret gardens and the most miniscule of natural surprises. Even her figurative work captures elegant moments interacting with nature.”-Renee Garner, Petals & Pedals, Guest Blogger for Modish (blog.modishhandmade.com)

Diana Stith Brennan is a photographer with a degree in environmental science, passionate about visually interpreting scientific details into accessible, affordable, wall art.  She was born and raised in Rhode Island, and took her first photography course while in high school. Diana was immediately hooked

In 2006, D. S. Brennan Photography was born.

Diana lives in Smithfield, Rhode Island with her “wonderful supportive husband”. Together, they love to garden and are constantly in some state of renovating their home.

While Diana specializes in Natural History photographs and large format prints (the largest ever being 42″x42″), her distinguished skills as a photographer allow her to flawlessly depict world’s simplest treasures

Diana is a self-proclaimed houseplant addict, making one of her favorite places Logee’s Greenhouse in Danielson, Connecticut.

She and her husband also love great ethnic food and her recent favorite spot is Ebisu in Cranston, Rhode Island

Her favorite coastal spot is Black Point, a little north of Scarborough Beach (and a little piece of heaven)

For aspiring photographers, Diana suggests using natural light whenever possible and avoid using the on-camera flash. According to Diana, “This is, hands down, the best way to improve your photos.”

“For me, it was important to try a variety of things at first and then narrow down my focus.  When I first started D. S. Brennan Photography I tried portraiture, product photography, etc.  But art photography was it for me.  The explorations were important in coming to that conclusion and, having explored the alternatives, I’m confident it was the right choice.”

Come out to the Garden City Center Art Festival on June 11, 2011 to see Diana Brennan’s beautiful photography in person!
